Did you know that January is Thyroid Health Awareness Month? I didn't until just now.
And it makes me really excited.
Have you ever had your thyroid checked by your doctor?
Have you ever checked it yourself?
Do you know the signs and symptoms of a malfunctioning thyroid?
Did you know that my thyroid function was 100% normal and I still had thyroid cancer?
Throughout the next week I'm going to try and answer these questions to the best of my knowledge by filling you in more on my experiences. Because my cancer was, thankfully, caught so early I'm going to live and thrive. But I'm not going to just talk about thyroid cancer. A poor functioning thyroid can have crippling affects on a person--one of my best friends has severe hypothyroidism, and she didn't know for years because her symptoms mimicked other issues.
So, let's learn more about our thyroids, shall we?

Did your thyroid show up functioning normal on a blood test? I had mine tested a few months ago and the Dr said it showed up normal. She didn't check me or any me anything, just just took the blood test. I'm SO tired all the time it is ridiculous. My son sleeps all night long with no problems and take 2 good naps a day. So, I shouldn't be this tired. What other things should I check for or ask my Dr?
As a Nutritional Therapist we are taught to support when there are hypothytroid symptoms even. Other test to run are iron, B-12, and adrenal fatigue(Labrix). When you have another thyroid test done besure to have TSH, Free T-3 and Free T-4 run. Sometimes Thyroid is secondary to either adrenal or pituitary/hypothalamus. Adrenal support helps to boost fatigue. Good luck.
